Frequently Asked Questions

How much do therapy sessions cost?

My rate for therapy sessions is $125 per 55-minute appointment. For clients experiencing financial stressors and/or working in a helping profession themselves, I may be able to charge a sliding scale fee for sessions and am happy to discuss this possibility.

Do you take insurance?

I am a private pay clinician, which means I am not currently paneled in-network with any insurance providers. If your insurance offers partial out-of-network reimbursement for counseling services and you are interested in utilizing it, I can provide you with superbills to submit to your insurance provider after appointments. If you are interested in exploring this option, it is your responsibility to learn about your insurance plan to see if this is an option for you. Additionally, some clients find it helpful to use their HSA or FSA card to pay for services.

How often will I have therapy appointments?

This can be flexible! I encourage clients to schedule their first three appointments about one week apart, if possible. This helps us to start building trust a little more quickly, make sure we are a solid fit, and establish some initial goals for our work together. After that, we can decide what session frequency makes the most sense for you. I typically see clients weekly or biweekly at a regular day/time. Extended or additional sessions within a week are not typically offered but can be arranged on an as-needed basis.

When and where will my therapy sessions take place?

I work in my practice on a part-time basis, and, right now, I am primarily scheduling appointments on Sundays and some weeknight evenings (contact me to get the most up to date information about day/time offerings). At this time, my practice is completely virtual, and I use secure video calls for therapy sessions. Please note that I am only able to meet with clients who are physically located in the state of Missouri during sessions.

What happens during my first therapy session?

Your first session is an opportunity to learn how therapy and my practice works and for us to start getting to know each other. Our time will be spent discussing whatever information about yourself you are comfortable sharing, so that I can start to get a holistic, nuanced sense of you and what brings you to therapy. This initial assessment process may take up to two or three appointments and will allow us to get on the same page about who you are, what you are needing, and where to start. It will also give you a taste of who I am as a therapist, so that you can determine if I am the provider you would like to keep working with! Also, you are always welcome to set parameters at your first appointment if there are topics you are uncomfortable or hesitant to discuss.

Can I work with you if I experience suicidal ideation, engage in self-harm, or engage in other risky behaviors?

This depends and is something we can discuss in a consult call. While I have worked with clients experiencing a variety of safety concerns during my career, within my practice I do not have the capacity to engage in crisis support or coaching outside of sessions. If you experience a high level of safety concerns or have recently been hospitalized for a reason related to your mental health, I will likely recommend that you participate in a therapy program that has some extra built-in support for you. However, some safety concerns can absolutely be addressed within my practice. We’ll figure out what makes the most sense!
